Christ the King Jamaica Plain – Roxbury

What is CTK JP/Roxbury?

Christ the King in Jamaica Plain and Roxbury exists to see people reconciled to God and one another through the transforming power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is one of eight congregations in the Christ the King Boston Church Planting Network www.ctkboston.org.

Within a one-mile radius where these two neighborhoods collide lies one of the most racially, culturally, ethnically, and socio-economically diverse neighborhoods in all of Boston. After over a year of prayerfully seeking a new place to worship on Sunday mornings, God opened a door in the heart of Roxbury. Sunday morning worship recently moved from Jamaica Plain to Roxbury hoping to more effectively pursue the kingdom mission to become a vibrant community that shows the love of Christ and the transforming power of the Gospel. The church, more than a location or a single event on Sunday mornings, is a people united in Christ committing their lives to Christ and living out the Gospel within these communities in which we live, work, and play.

What will mission teams will be involved in?

Our church needs teams to come in and assist our members in running a Summer Sports Camp to minister to youth and their families in the Roxbury neighborhood.  Though there are programs and activities available through community centers, not all families can afford to participate, and these programs do not offer the words of eternal life.  We desire to offer fun, safe activities where we can also share the good news of Jesus Christ with these kids and their parents, while building relationships with them.

We desire to run sports camps throughout the Summer with a different mission team coming to assist each week.  During the Sports Camps we will run various sports activities, such as kickball, soccer, basketball, etc. Mission teams will also help church members teach short Bible lessons, serve food, reach out to the community, and pray for the neighborhood.

We want to see God bring people into His Kingdom. Our hope is to create lasting relationships with the children and families who participate. We long to see the families we minister to join us in Sunday worship, where they may continue to hear the Gospel, be encouraged to worship the living God with His people and help us minister to our community in days to come.

Dates:  We are wanting at least three summer teams for 2018.  Ideally teams can stay the entire week but if you can only attend for part of the week we can work with you.  In the past teams have come for 4-5 day weekend trips.  While it may not be ideal we would love to accommodate teams and churches who are interested in coming but might need to come with more customized schedules.  Ideally, we are looking for three summer teams to come for an entire week.  We are looking for help for these three weeks:

July 7-13

July 14-20

July 21-27

Schedule:  Here is a typical schedule teams can expect upon arrival:

·       SATURDAY:  Arrival & Orientation.  Get accommodated and settled in.  Introduction to Jamaica Plain & Roxbury.,  Meet with leadership and members of the church.

·       SUNDAY:  Worship with the Congregation in Roxbury.  Freedom Trail afterwards to learn more about the city.

·       MONDAY – THURSDAY:  Run Sports Camp, Prayer Walk, pass out fliers, Interact with people in the city, debrief.

·       FRIDAY:  Site-seeing & Roxbury Departure

Cost:  $600 per person for teams of 5-8. This will help cover lodging, food, and supplies to assist with Sports Camp.  This cost does not include transportation.

Accommodations:  Lodging will be provided.

Closest Airport: Logan International

Transportation: Teams will be responsible for their own transportation.  For further questions or requests on how we can accommodate and assist as a church please ask us.  While we have a pretty functional train & bus system and while we can try to get members of the church to assist upon arrival, we ask that each team plan and budget their own mode of arriving on site.
